called on Colonial Secretary and said his Goverment
had instructed him by telegraph to inform Colonial Government that it had been decided to send Japanese gunboat "Saga" which has been lying here for some months to Canton to-morrow morning to protect

Japanese community there in the event of an attack on
to the city and that it may be necessary to remove the gunboat the whole of the Japanese community consisting of about 150 persons. Repeated to Canton and Peking.
